i have a 78 pace car, and down both sides of the car right under the edgeof the hump, i guess right on the seem there is a crack. it is very sharp almost like someone took a razor and followed the seems down the body. does this happen often and is it an easy fix. i have done fiberglass work before on aircraft just never a car. is this something that just needs to be sanded and filled or much more involved.
It sounds like you might have the original paint. This was a very common problem in the late seventies. My 77 developed these cracks within a year of purchasing it new. It was so common back then that some people were even able to get GM to repaint their cars because of it. It would develop along the bonding seam on all four fenders in most cases.
It is easily fixed by a competent painter, but usually involves repainting the car since it tends to show up on all four fenders. If it’s on only one fender and particularly if it is not the original paint, I would suspect a poorly done repair from a mishap.
yes it is original paint and it is present in all 4 fenders. I am in the process of redoing the susspension and making the car a little more fun to drive. i problaby wont have the car painted just yet. that will be the last part i fix. i want it to be fun to drive first.
