I am not the seller at all. Like I said...Ebay is a auction forum. You look at a part...if you agree with the price...buy it.....if not don't. It's very simple. I am not a NCRS guy but if I owned a $200,000.00 Corvette that cap might be a good deal. Ever priced parts for Duesenbergs or Ferraris ? Corvettes are a bargain !!
People often comment that these rare NOS parts are worth a lot of money IF they are being used on a 100 pt NCRS car. I think a lot of these parts are bought by parts collectors. A brand new NOS cap won't be brand new any more if the guy runs it on his car. (OK, he MIGHT actually put it on for judging). Some people just appreciate an original old part the way they appreciate an original old car. They collect parts for their own sake. And I thought that Ebay was a website that existed primarily for our amusement. MJ
These are collector's cars, so rarity rules. Hell, people pay hundreds of dollars for rare barbie dolls an GI Joes. A few hundred for the part that caps off your concourse restoration makes a helluva lot more sense to me than that.

Re: EBay $600.00 Distributor Cap (paul67)
Holy smokes. That is a lot of green backs for that. I agree that people that would buy that piece are restoring an NCRS 100 point car. This may be the only way they can get the last few points, so it may be just what they need.
I bough a NOS correct cap for my L36 a few monts ago on Ebay. I has never been used . In 69 there were a coupe of different ones and this was the one I needed so I bid $35 at the last minute and got it. I can't see how they would jump up that much. There are still thousands out the being as almost every GM car used one of a few variations. Some have patent pend. others have "r" or patent numbers. some have coppere inserts others have aluminum. Even with all of the variables ther has got to be lots around. I saw several at the NCRS meet in January that were selling for under $50. They were NOS and you could look at them.
The lister can aks anything he wishes, it just takes one tool to place a bid. Who knows, maybe an NCRS guy needs a cap to finish his 67.....
Think that is outrageous? A friend of mine is into GTO's and showed me a listing for a 65 NOS trunk molding. This part is not repopped, and the existing ones pit.... sold for $8,000.00
