Good, bad or indifferent, tell me what's right or wrong with this combo.
383SBC, 10:1 compression, Canfield 200's ported and bowl blended, COMP Magnum286 hydraulic roller (230@.050 .598 lift w/1.6 rockers), Performer RPM Air Gap, Childs and Albert ZGS gapless moly rings.
Sounds like a good setup to me. But I also have Canfield 200's that were ported and had the bowls blended, with a cam very similar to yours, and the engine builder highly recommended the Vic Jr. or Team G sinlge plane intake manifold. Team G part #7530 (what I have) easily fits under a vette hood. I believe it is just slightly shorter than the RPM non air gap
That sounds like a killer street combo, should have plenty of low end grunt and scream to 6000, just before valve float. Do you know what your flow rates are going to be? If I am not mistaken when you exhast flows closer to 70% of your int then a split duration cam is better, but if you are closer to 80% then a single pattern cam is better.
I don't know what the intake vs exhaust flow will be with the port/bowl work. I did consider that though. I've read that AFR heads flow so well on the exhaust that they respond better to a single pattern cam. Out the box Canfields flow well on the exhaust too, but not quite 80%. Might be a mute point now. I just requested the builder to switch to a COMP XR288 hydraulic roller( 236/242 A .050 .555/.576 w/1.6's) I've got an Art Carr Xtreme 700R4 with a 3000 stall 9.5 billet converter in the case in the garage. It should match up better with that cam I think.
I like the cam switch to the 288, take a good look at the single plane Team G or Victor Jr. for your setup as well.
I think I will have a single plane intake on standby for any serious track events but I'm leaning towards World Products Motown intake instead of the two you mentioned. Supposedly is worth 25 ponies over the competition.
