Before I settled on a friend of a friend to paint mine I went to three different shops around town. While mine was going to be re-painted the same color it is a two tone. Including some minor body work, seems and one crack by the front drivers side marker light, everyone quoted the same price - $5,000. Only difference was the time it would take. Anywhere from 3 months to 6.

How much did the "friend of a friend" charge you, and is he interested in doing another? I'm searching for paint quotes around the DFW area. Mine needs paint soon.

It was a good deal at $2,000.00 for the bodywork and paint job. The paint looks great and since it is a PC he even installed the decals and weather strip. Would I recomend him to a friend? No. He promised me 8 months and took 13. He would never return telephone calls and when I did catch him the story was always the same...I am working on this or that and the vette got pushed back. Don't get me wrong, he is a nice guy and does outstanding work but his work ethic and ability to honor his commitment left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I think that if you are paying more for you paint job - you get better customer service, it seems to me that everyone I ever spoke to about a paint job that "got a deal" had to wait alot longer for the car, as high paying customers come first!!!

I wanna get my car a custom paint job one day but I already know it's gonna be alot, so I have to save save save until then. :seeya

The "how much" question has come up a lot as most of the C3's will eventually need new paint based on their age if it hasn't been done recently... a respected shop in NW IL quotes $6,500 for a complete "basic" repaint (no bodywork) and says it takes 3 months ... I've heard of another shop that's about half that price but don't know what kind of time he's allowing ... if you can schedule the repaint during your "storage" months (at least here in the Midwest) it could work out great as long as its done by the time you expect to drive it in the spring ... assume that TX folks might be year-rounder's so probably doesn't apply ... always ask for referrals if you can and always check to see what they have in the shop (and ask how long its been there) :chevy

I just had my 76 repainted including a change in color to C4 metallic red. The original estimate was 3,000 to 4,000. Unfortunately by the time I was done with the modifications/additions, it was just under nine grand and took from December to late June.

I see you are in NOVA. I am as well. There is only one place you should go- if you want the best. And a great price too...

I was referred by Tony's Corvette Shop (you should know them if you are local) to Tony's Auto Body, totally different guy and shop. Reactions at shows were all saying the same thing to me- "that is the best paint job I have ever seen". I am NOT kidding. My initial estimate was $4500 but turned out to be more after an L-88 hood was added and some unseen body work fixed.

It took about 3 Months, but was well worth it. Tony can be reached at 410-257-7811 he is in Owings MD- about an hour into southern MD.

Now I did shop around, local places were averaging aro 5k with Stingray Autobody (Purceyville?) hitting the high at 9K....

Good luck- you can see my car at most local shows in VA/MD, see my sig for a pic...

Cheers!

Maybe I am missing something here. $5k to $9k to paint with a little body work. I thought $3000 (prices from 3 years ago) was a high price. My 76 could use a paint job but at that those prices I"ll have to wait. What is the cost to repaint if show quality is not a concern? I was figuring it would take 40 hours of labor at $50 per hour plus materials. Knowing how body shops work, 40 hours is not just a week. That time is spread out over several weeks.
I have no doubt that if your car is in the shop for 9 months for a repaint, the body shop is just as happy to see it leave as you are to pick it up. Now if you're saying 9 or more months in the shop and it's an off the chassis redo with the frame(and everthingelse) being sand blasted, then that is understandable.

Here in NY, I have had consistent estimates of 5K (PLUS any surprises). I have gotten as high as 10K! Needless to say, it's still crappy orange with a black rear bumper... :cry

the bodyshop where i work, i'm involved in 10K+ paint jobs all day long. Trust me, what you pay is what you get. Think about it..its all labor$$ In materials and paint, i spent $1500 on my 69, and it took me exactly one month to strip, body work, paint and buff...so the rest is yes, labor.

You show me a **** who can strip, prep & paint a Vette in 40 hrs. and I'll show you someone who snorts speed for breakfast!

I'm guessing $4000.00 (labor) @ $50/hr. = 80 hrs. + $1000.00 materials.

Three quotes here (SoFLA), all came in @ $5k.
