Oil Pump Pickup Question
I'm getting ready to finish the engine for my '72 Cpe. I think that I have the original high capicity oil pan with the internal baffels, but no trap door.
I have a mellings 55HV oil pump, and when I try to set the pickup 1/2" from the bottom of the pan its at an angle (not parallel to the bottom of the pan). The HV Pump is taller than the stock pump. I sent mellings a note but so far no response.
My question is do I need a different pickup and if so which one, a standard pump to match my existing pickup, or should I just buy the Mildon pan/pumo/pickup combo?
BTW, its a 383 stroker that will be mated to a 700R4 and a 3:70 rear. I picked the car up from a Forum member last april and am starting to put everything back together (Frame off Resto). I am also rebuilding the original motor and trans for the car (future use).

You should measure the depth of the pan and get a pick up to match. It is somewhat :confused: to do because some pickups just say 'For use with stock pan except yada yada yada' without telling you the depth. But if you look at all the pickups some actually list the depth of pan to be used with. Summit now sells a bracket that bolts to the pump and holds the pick up. Melling also makes a HV pump that has pickups that bolt directly to the pump.
