AFTER SETTING IN MY SHOP FOR THE LAST 14 YEARS I AM GOING TO PUT MY 80 L82 ON THE ROAD.I AM THE 2ND OWNER(SINCE 84) AND THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD WIRE WHEELS WHICH HAVE RUSTED OVER THE YEARS. I WOULD LIKE TO PUT CRAGAR S/S 61815 WHEELS ON THE CAR. ANY IDEAS AS TO PROBLEMS I MAY INCUR WITH SPACING?
I tried to pop on some Cragar SS rims (not sure of the part/model number) and they wouldn't clear the calipers without at least 3/4" spacers, so I sold 'em and bought TTIIs
I used Cragar S/S wheels on several of my C3's.. You'll need the extra long lugnuts and 1/2 - 3/4 inch of spacing... 1/2 inch might not be enough because the long lugnuts might hit the rotor and not tighten the wheel enough and the wheel could get lose if you don't use enough spacing...
I put the Cragar SS mags on my '69 last year. All I had to do was add a spacer in order to clear the brake calipers. Piece of cake. The car looks absolutely great with those wheels. I'm very happy with them. Go for it!
I had some 1/2 inch spacers custom made out of billet aluminum; made sure they fit the studs perfectly. I have had no problems in two years. My 255s rubbed a little, so changed to 235s in the front.
I also added the spinner caps and get lots of favorable comments.
PS: BTW, using all caps is sorta frowned upon here. :)
