I want to install a fuel pump in the tank but I want to find a place that can make me a sending unit that just replaces the orginal unit. anybody have a clue
Pat, I'm considering removing the feed line from the sending unit & tig welding a larger bung to it to attach an AN fitting. From there you can add a sump area and you could actually install the in-tank fuel pump into the sump. Let me see if I can find some pics of what I'm trying to describe ;)
Yea I was think along the lines replacing the lines with larger ones and tig welded. but I thought I sean that some one actually makes these with the pump attached I research I know they make one for older mustangs
Well what i did for now and it works great is,i took the stock sending unit and removed the sock off of it,i took a 89 corvette pump and attached it to the end of the sending unit with high pressure fuel injection hose, maybe 1 inch piece.I then ran 2 wires out of the top of the tank and sealed it,one ground one 12 volts. When the sending unit is mounted back in place, the new sock thats on the end of the new fuel pump is sitting on the very bottom of the tank at the lowest point.I have run it down to about 1-2 gallons and trouble with it.Ive take it to about 3-4 gallons and hit hard turns and it doesnt hesitate.Ill be making a new tank with a sump and AN fittings soon.
I looked at the 82 units and I think it going to have to be somthing else because I need to support a large amount of fuel about 40 pound injectors. If I could building a sump if it just went into the existing tank socket that can go back to stock later would be ok, I just put the new tank in so its got a lot life in it. so maybe a sump that can can be repalce into the existing sender socket and then have the pump and sender in that.
