Is anybody running this conversion kit in there dist.? And how is it working out? Thinking about purchasing this over the mallory unilite conversion. I want to retain the ballast resister wire set up! :chevy Thoughts ideas opinions needed please.
I use the Petronix Ignitor, it is a 2 wire system. I know the Lectric Limited system is only a 1 wire but, I have used Pertronix for better than 15 yrs without any failures. LL system is more expensive but, looks "stock" where Pertronix hooks up to both sides of the coil, STAY AWAY from optical systems like the Mallory!
Installed the Breakerless SE kit in my 1970 SB. Actually installed it in the original distributor. Car works fine. Single wire makes it nice, too. I had my distributor out of the car to install the kit. Not required, but probably makes it much easier.
I can't speak to the LL set-up but it looks nice. I have run Mallory Unilite for 5 plus years with no problems. If price is an issue and the LL set up is more money than you want to spend, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Mallory Unilite.
I converted to this system last July and ran it until I put her in storage in November. Started her again after I did some work under the hood. Runs great. You cannot tell you have this under the cap.
I had a Mallory Unilite set in my distributor. It had failed on me. I ended up going with MSD and getting a new distributor with the tach drive. Works like a champ!
