Ok, I need some input from anyone that's using the Delco Reactek or the Monroe Sensatrac shocks. I'm trying to tame this bone shaking '69 vert a bit. Biggest problem is on crappy roads (washboard or otherwise) where the whole body shakes and sometimes even pops the hood open! Thanks in advance!
I dont know much about the shocks you mention but I really like the Bilsteins I got on mine. Great shcoks. Have you considered them? Another thing, what air pressure are you running in your tires. If they're pumped to the max the it will make the ride rougher. For moderate driving 28-30 psi will suffice and maybe quiet the jarring down a bit. Just a suggestion. Wouldnt cost a thing to try anyway.
I like my reactecs but I don't have any experience with others to make a fair comparison. I would have to echo that suggestion about soft body mounts, if nothing else it might prevent a future stess crack.
Tnx for the help. I think changing the body mounts is next in line. Given that they are solid now, would changing to poly's be ok or just go with the softer rubber? I don't quite understand why the rubber mounting kit is nearly half again the price of the poly kit....
Are new body mounts a tough job or just another 'thing' to deal with?
Chris, body mount replacement difficulty will be directly related to how much (if any) rust is present. Also what kind of condition the rocker channels are in. It's usually easiest with the body off, but can be done with it on if you get lucky and there are no rust problems and mounting bolts breaking off. I would start by soaking everything with Silicroil or PB blaster at least a week before you even think about turning the mounting bolts. I honestly don't know why the rubber mounts are priced higher then poly ones, seems like it should be the other way around.
I have a set of the sensatraks. They work fine. Not the quality of Bilsteins or some others I would guess, but not the price either. Well worth the money
