Not everybody drives at the same speed...

...if I wanted to, I could say that Z06 owners are always accelerating away from us C5 vert owners. But, I just enjoy their acceleration and enjoy the wind in my hair.

I usually just rev at them, i dont like waving.
 You don't LIKE waving!?!?!?

OLDGUARD -- did YOU wave to him? He slowed to check your shark out....and you did not wave, so he might have been as miffed as you were.

I have a C4 and I wave at all Vettes....no matter generation.

Save the wave!

I was in my gf's 90something Mitsubishi Mirage GT with a fart can when some younger guys (my age) in a C5 pulled up beside me and revved their engine. They spun the tires when the light turned green and cut their way through traffic. They ended up behind me at the next light. Idiots. Like I had a chance in my gf's 4-banger and like there was even a point.

I own a condo, and my next door neighbor told me a new owner was in the process of moving into the long empty unit below us, and that when he met the guy he learned that out new ground floor neighbor has a '98 coupe. I thought it was cool that I was going to have a fellow Vette owner for a neighbor and was looking forward to meeting him. Well, the other day as I was slowly pulling the '79 into my garage (tight fit & tricky maneuver), I noticed the new neighbor, who I had yet to see, came out of his garage to throw out his trash, and on the way back in he paused and looked at my car for a few seconds, and just as I was about to roll down my tinted window to wave and say "hello", he turned and continued into his garage. No wave, no "Hello, nice to meet you" or "Hey, we got something in common!". Just a few seconds of blank stare then gone. I was a little put off by that. I know I'm silly. I guess I assume if you make the effort to own a Corvette, you're automatically an enthusiast to some extent, and enthusiasts don't snub one another. That's why I was a tad bit disappointed. Oh well, I hear jumping jacks are a good form of exercise! :jester Hope he won't mind
This morning I was returning home from work and the driver of a red C-5 pulls up alongside me and was riding alongside me checking out my shark, he then pulled away as if to say "my vette is better than yours".
I know there's a lot of complaining around here about mostly newer Vette owners who don't adhere to the tradition and wave to us who do. Do you think it's mostly ignorance, and that they are unaware of the long standing tradition, or do you think they are simply unfriendly people and don't care. I mean, even if nobody ever told them about "the wave", they must notice all the people in Vettes waving at them as they pass just about every single time they are out in their cars, right? So are they just snobs, grumpy, or what? I know nobody has to wave, but ya know this world is crummy enough. You'd think something as simple as a wave to another you have something so cool in common with could go a long way in making the messed up world we live in a little bit better place? And believe me, that coming from a hardcore pessimist.
...he then pulled away as if to say "my vette is better than yours". It was raining pretty good this morning. What do you make of that?
non sequitur?

Don't get your feelings hurt. He was driving faster than you in the first place. He slowed down to admire your car for a bit, then he gunned it to get back up to the speed or the place he thinks he would have been if not for the beautiful distraction, your C3! Who should better understand the fun of sprinting away than another Vette owner? No you've hurt his feelings! Shame, Shame, Shame!

For penance, you need to go over the C5 section and apologize right now!

...sharks are solely for enthusiasts, and most (not all) c5 owners use it as a status symbol.

Where's the BS flag when I need it?

You guys really believe that? I know there's a lot of C3ers who do, but I don't think they've considered it all that long before jumping to that conclusion.

If you do not think that a LOT of C5ers are hot-rodders/enthusiasts then you are misinformed. I guess those guys who race the C5R are status seekers? I guess they would do better against their competition in a built-up C3? Please.

There are a _number_ of C5 guys who are just now able to afford their first Vette. They buy a _new_ one b/c maybe they are not mechanically-inclined, nor have the time to work on the car all the time. They want to _drive_ it. yes, these guys are the "show n shine" crowd. I don't particularly fit in with them at all b/c I'm a grease-monkey who busts his knuckles turning wrenches, but that doesn't mean they are all flakes.

Many do not wave b/c they are uneducated to "the wave". I was a hot-rodder LONG before I knew jack squat about "the wave", but I am more of a car enthusiast than most people even on this board.

I could flip this around and easily say something like, "C3ers with big-blocks think their cars are fast JUST b/c its a big-block"... which is of course completely false (unless you consider a 13-14 sec car fast), but many do think this. Does this make these guys less of Vette owner? No. It just makes them uneducated as to typical late-model performance, and the fact many BB Vettes are just not that fast. These guys might turn to me and say its "no big deal if its not that fast b/c I like the lines of the C3, yadda, yadda, yadda...." Ok, well now who's the "status seeker"? Do you own a Vette to stare at it and be a show n shine guy, or because its a performance car? Maybe some of both? I think most C5 guys feel the same way about their cars.

And yet b/c they don't wave, they get slammed. Or b/c they don't slow down and stay behind their C3 brothers.
