Default Front Rotor removal

I am currently working on removing my front coil spring.
I took the calipers off and right now, they are hanging by a wire.
Now how do I pull off the rotors? I thought they were just supposed to slide off? ARe the supposed to be hammered off?

If they're original, then they are still rivetted to the bearing hub. Simply remove the wheel bearing grease cap, remove the cotter pin and retaining nut, remove the outer bearings, and then give a quick pull to remove the bearing hub/rotor assembly.

They are riveted to the hub, you have to drill the rivets out. No need to do unless they are bad. Leave them on when turning them you get a truer cut. :chevy

Don't hammer them unless you are throwing them away. Even gentle blows will ruin the rotors! :nono:

I just did this last week. The rivets are hard to drill out, but eventually they gave up.

The minimum rotor thickness is stamped on the outside rotor hub. In my case 1.2 inches. Mine measured 1.09 which was way below spec so new rotors from Auto Zone were ordered.

It's best to take the grease cap and cotter pin out and pull the whole assembly so you can work it on the bench as was recommended before.

Hammering is also a great way to ruin the bearings. If you want to remove the rivets, the best method is to just pull the hub assembly off and do the drilling on a heavy drill press with sharp bits and cutting fluid.

Carefully center-punch the outer face of the rivet, drill 7mm dia x 6mm deep. Then c-sink or use a 10mm bit to take the rivet head off. The rotor can be removed. If you’re lucky, the remaining parts of the rivets can be pressed out, but you will likely have to remove the flared end of the rivet on the inside of the hub using a similar drilling process.
