All,
My car has a hesitation when you give it gas in any gear.
It hesitates then goes. Works ok If I give it a lot of throttle.
I just bought the car and it has been sitting for a number of years.
It has a Holley 650 DP on it. Emissions controls removed, but all else stock I believe.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look at first?
I've cleaned the accelerator pumps as they were clogged and cleaned the gunk and rust off of the distributor weights. (It would barely run before I did that)
I can replace anything and am not afraid to work on anything, but; I don't have much experience "tuning".
You may want to try larger acerator pump nozzles. With a double pumper your opening both throttle plates giving the engine a lean condition and a large drop in vacuum, then after a split second or two vacuum comes back pull gas through the venturi's. Had a similar problem when I installed a larger cam and going up two sizes cleared thing up. Try your local speed shop for these.
I have not done a rebuild on this one.
I've only had the car a short while.
The previous owner said it was rebuilt last year.
It did appear to have new rubber gaskets when I took it apart. (The accelerator pumps were clogged originally from the car sitting).
money is an object. I would rather not replace the carb if I don't have to.
I would check the adjustment of the accelerator pump linkage. If it is too loose it will not give a proper shot of gas at low throttle applications and you will get a temporary lean mixture and the stumble you describe.
Finally got it licensed and drove it a few miles today.
NOt only does it hesitate , it also misses and stumbles at part throttle cruising.
I just got her running and haven't checked the plugs yet.
Probably do that tomorrow along with checking the accelerator pump linkage.
as advised.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
