1971 350/270 Where can I find the electrical connector to the water temp. sending unit. It fits straight on the peg style sending unit. Not at a 90 degree angle.
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (Tom Johnson)
Think you can still get them from GM. If not either a junkyard (they were used on lots of Chevys from the 70s. If not there then maybe Lectric Limited.
The original straight pin connectors are impossible to find. I've looked for several years for an original one. Lectric Limited does NOT repro this, and produces their "original" harnesses with clips for thumb tack connectors.
The original straight pin connectors were cylindrical, not 90 degree bent. They were an off white/milky plastic. I've never seen an original "Corvette style" straight pin connector on any junk yard car, or at any swap meet for that matter.
I made one from a piece of hard nylon tubing that I found at a hardware store. Drilled out the center...put a brass connector in it, and wired it up. Looks "close" to correct. Chuck
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (Tom Johnson)
Thanks for the info guys. My local GM dealer here in Green Bay did not have the connector. I e-mailed Lectric Limited with a pic of the sending unit but sounds like that is gonna be a dead end also. I guess I will just have to jerry rig-it some how.
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (Tom Johnson)
does yours go straight down on top of the sensor and uses a blade type terminal on the sensor , if i understand right yours does not go on from the side with a mushroom head type terminal . also is it a single terminal or a two blade terminal like pictured
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (Tom Johnson)
tom , post a pic or email it to me , i work at a gm dealer and have more time than others to help or maybe i just dont mind taking the time , any way ive got some very old and new connector catalogs and im sure i can find something like what you want , your description sounds like the connector that goes onto the back of a cig. lighter housing , ive already got some numbers of connectors with a 90 degree bend on the conn. body that go down on top of the temp sensor with a round peg style terminal , just let me know , vette75406
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (Tom Johnson)
Here's a pic of the sending unit. I don't have a pic of the connector but Chuck, in his reply above, has a very good description of it. The peg is 3/8" long and 3/32" in dia.
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (Oldguard 7)
Does Doc sell the correct one? I didn't think anybody was repro'ing this. Have spoken with Lectric Limited on several occasions. They're "working on it", and have been for several years. I've never seen a straight pin repro temp sender connector for sale. Chuck :)
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (Chuck Gongloff)
Dr. Rebuild does not sell the type of sending unit or connector that I am looking for. I bought the straight peg type sending unit from Ecklers. They have a pic of the sending unit at there web site
Re: Temperature Sending Unit Connector (vette75406)
Guess next question is: is there any reason you can't change to the 90 deg sending unit so you can use the 90 deg connnector? Assuming you are going for NCRS look.
