Re: Gearhead poll.... (OHSIXX)
ohsixx, i'm no gear expert but all the people i've ever heard suggest you go up at least half a point or you won't notice any significant difference. in your case, a 3.55:1 would be the minimum recommended jump. i can't verify this since i have never done this swap. i personally, am keeping my nice, tall gears for cruising and will rely on a doug nash to get the acceleration i'm currently lacking.

Using 3.7 with a 700R4, but wish I had 3.55 or even 3.36. Don't need the low first gear and such a low gear.

3.70 here A little annoying on the pkwy but the perfect gear for my combo.

3.55's. I don't get traction with these, so what's the point in going to a shorter gear?

Depends on the car and driver I run consistent 12.50 on 17 inch wheels. With no tire spin out of the gate.

3:55's with 3.27 tranny gear, makes for a short first gear run... :D
Actually, I should be running 3:08's with the 5 speed.

Re: Gearhead poll.... (verskel)
I love the launch of the stiffer gear of the 4 series. I used 4.11 in my 61, and the 62 below has 4.56. I`m not planning on going a buck fifty in that car.
SuprJames, if you change to a 4 series gear you wont have all that wheel spin and besides the car will be quicker.

I just installed a 700r4, full manual valve body, reverse shift pattern, 3500 stall converter. I also enjoy "cruisin'" with the car, but got tired of 65mph @ 4000 rpm. I have no intentions of doing 150mph (maybe in the 1/4 mile one day :D )

SuprJames, if you change the gear to a 4 series you will get away from the wheel spin.
