Default rear bearing help

I am redoing rear suspension on my 78 and replacing rear bearings, my question is ,when i check the play for the bearings it comes out to use the same thickness shims that was with the old bearings the old bearings were still good but as long as i had it down i figured i should change them so i guess what im asking is that is it possible that it would call for same thickness as old bearings or am i doing something wrong? thanks for any help DRM78

If it came out the same (.002") I wouldn't worry about it. The shims were selected for those bearings when they were new.

Couple of questions:

What did you have before and after for end-play and runout?
How did you check the end-play?
Did you check the end play with the new ebarigns greased or lightly oiled?

So far every new set of bearings I installed needed a shim adjustment. I always start using the original shim and they usally have about .010-.014 end play.
