my tach cable is in the 8 o'clock position and vacuum advance is at 2 o'clock... very strange with your setup.
Of course the tach cable limits the way you position the distributor and with your setup there is no way getting vacuum to a 2 o'clock position.
Yes, my tach cable also runs a slight S-curve like yours but this does not hurt the needle movement - it is as steady as a rock (ever since I replaced the cable).
