Default Speedometer cable removing question

1982 corvette

I hate to ask this question because it seems so simple to me, but I am having trouble finding the answer. I have to remove the cable that goes from the transmission to the box. I have unscrewed both ends, and have taken the top portion of it out, but the lower portion will not come out of the transmission. If I pull on it, it comes out part of the way, but then it sticks. It looks like something got caught on it a one time and wrapped around the cable, but it is clear from the tip so that should not be the problem. Any advice on this would be helpful.

TIA

I have replaced the lower cable on my 82 twice. The biggest problem I had was unscrewing it at the transmission. Make sure the fitting is all the way off and not hanging up on the last couple of threads.
Do these cars eat lower cables or is it just mine?

I had to replace the lower cable on my 74. My Chambered Exhaust cooked it. If it is like mine, unscrew all the way and gently pull it out.
