Converting a points distributor, which kit to buy?
I currently have a points disrtibutor in my 74. I am thinking of a conversion kit. Are the conversion kits worth the money and performance ? If so, which kit is would you recommend? I have also looked into Daves small body HEI and conversions. Any information on these would be appreciated...
Thanks,

I have the Pertronics Ignitor. It does not improve performance per se, but it does give reliable dwell and starts every time. Never have to change or set the points again. (and it fits inside the stock distributor- stealth electronic ignition)
Lars did a comparo between points, pertronics style triggers and MSD a while ago. The results were only the MSD actually improved performance.

Garson, I used the pertronix Ignitor II, with one of their hotter coils, and have been very pleased with it. So far, 6000 miles with no problems. It's an easy install if you pay attention to what you're doing. If you hook up wrong, then you're going to have problems down the line.
I bought mine on a web site for $89.95 delivered, not counting the coil.(Bought that locally) I can't remember the name, but it was out of Houston, Tx.

I just picked up a Crane conversion for $80. Real easy to install. No performance difference just easier then messin around with points. Don't know much about the petronics but it was cheaper then the MSD conversion($129) and easier to install.

I've had the original Pertronix in my 74 now for quite a few years. It's never given me any problems and the dwell is identical to the day I installed it with no maintenance. Look in the Reviews section or at this link and you'll see the write up I did. It's a little more involved than the Crane install because it requires taking out the distributor to check for endplay. Also you must have the right gap between the Pertronix unit and the magnetic ring. Here's the link with my installation instructions. https://www.corvetteforum.com/review...=221&TopicID=2

I changed mine but on Lars advice changed back to a points system. When these kits work they are fine when they go wrong they are a nightmare!!
