Default Sidepipe Mufflers

As you most know i am in college, so i am asking this to save my scarce money. I have in my sidepipes now the hooker glasspack mufflers. They are too quite. I was thinking of just pulling the mufflers out and running open pipes. I love the sound but i am living in downtown milwaukee and bont want to get tickets for noise. I know that the JCL mufflers work well but they are expensive. My boss gave me an idea that i think might work. Could i take the Moroso spiral flow race mufflers and modify them so they fit into my sidepipes. They are only $32 a peice and i can modify them myself. Would it work?

Here is a link to the mufflers i am looking at.

Sure why not? I bought a pair of Dynomax Magnum glasspacks for less than 20 bucks each, welded the end flanges from the old Hooker mufflers to them, they fit just as the Hookers but sound way  and have to flow much better.

Patriot makes auger inserts. They are available in 3" and 3 1/2" inserts and 11" long. The Summit part numbers are PTE-H3843 (3 1/2") and PTE-H3844 (3"). Summit also sells 4' 3 1/2" aluminized tubing for $15 (SUM-640035).

If you want an auger style muffler, I'd buy 4 inserts and a 4' length of pipe. Then, I'd weld two inserts in each pipe and then modify the ends of the 3 1/2" pipe so it would fit just like the Hooker mufflers. All of this for just $55 a pair. A better idea would be to use some 4" -> 3 1/2" header reducer cones at the muffler inlet, but that adds $25 to the price.

I'm not running this setup but I may experiment one day. I am currently running a 2 1/2" perferated core glasspack. It's not quiet and is basically the same design as the Dynomax Race Bullet mufflers. I bought just the core tube and some muffler fiberglass packing from a smaller muffler company. It cost me $40 and the core tubes are stainless steel.
