Default Radiator Fill? 72 350, no AC

I know this is a really stupid question, but how do you fill the coolant? My car's radiator has no radiator cap on the radiator. The radiator cap is on a remote tank, and then there is a small overflow tank attach to that tank. Since there appears to be no direct fill on the radiator, where do I fill it from?

Also, the bottom of the raditor is resting directly on the frame and its starting to rust. I want to raise the radiator up and put some sort of rubber/foam spacer to stop the rubbing. Any advice? How can I loosen the radiator in order to slide it up a bit?

You fill thru the over flow. The system should be full so that a level of coolant is in the overflow tank that allows the fluid to expand to it when hot and then as the engine cools down, it will suck the coolant back into the raditor. You need to get a service manual and an assembly manual to see the steps for working on a part. Here's a past thread (you can search for others with the search function on the left.

You have to remove a lot to get the radiator loose.

Good luck.

When filling a dry system, make sure the engine is filled by removing the heater hose from the intake and adding to the overflow until water reaches the open nipple. After reconnecting start engine and turn heater on (if you have a shut off valve installed on a 72 it will restrict flow in the line to the overflow reducing removal of air from your system).

Also, places like Corvette Central sell radiator spacers which are rubber doughnut shaped things. There should be one at the bottom on each radiator support. They are cheap - $1.50 or so, but they keep the radiator from rubbing on the radiator frame. You should be able to loosen the radiator and slide those in...

Good luck :)

Another dumb question...............What's the point of turning on the heater?
I've heard this said before, any car I've worked on the heater controls have no cotrol of the water flow to the heater core
