Default short in ignition circuit help!!

my car must have a short somewhere in the ignition
the cable that goes from the coil to the starter goes warm in seconds when i turn the key to ignition
whats wrong?
the cable seems not too go directly too the starter it goes in the harness that
goes into the car.
where does it hook up to the starter?
have measured the power when the ign is on on the coil and i get 5,5 volts
when the starter goes i have 7,5 volts
must be a short somewhere but where?
anyone have a electric schematic off the ignition?

Tell me if I'm wrong here, memory is a bit foggy on this.

Your coil has three posts; ground, battery and high voltage. Ground and high voltage have one wire and the battery post has two wires. The battery post has a wire from your ignition keyswitch and the other wire on this post goes to your starter solenoid.

So what you are saying is the wire from your coil to your starter solenoid gets hot in seconds?

This wire carries up to 20 amps when you are starting your car. Does your car start okay?

nope havent got any spark at all...
it gets hot when i turn on the ignition
i have changed a lot of things points,coil,distributor cap,rotor,wire
it went well for a while but then one point just broke down, the contact surfaces
broke in two pieces and fell down in the distributor.
have cleaned the distributor and added a new point but no spark and a hot wire!!

No spark at all hmmm... The engine turns over okay though?

My first suspicion if this wire is getting warm is a short in your starter. I don't believe there is any current flowing through this wire unless you turn the keyswitch to START. When the key is at ON does this wire get hot?

Don't know the IGN circuit all that well but this has been usefull in the past. HOT WIRE the car. If it starts you'll know the prob is in the IGN for sure. Place a jumper from BAT + to the + on your coil. Crank/Start it. If it starts,no doubt, the prob is in your IGN circuit. {IGN Switch?} Monitor your AMP gauge for excessive draw. If it pegs shut it down till you find the short. Let your nose be your guide. [Smoke Test].
