We were talking cranks here, rods are a whole new ball game I would not go anything less than a 5140 forged rod. Lots of guys not driving like grannies running 10 -11 sec 1/4 miles on cast cranks.
Jeff.....Rods will be 6" 5140, as well as forged flat top pistons. I am looking at alum heads and if I go that way I will put the CR @ 11:1
If I stay with iron heads I will keep the CR @ 10:1
I'm still in the planning and gathering stage. I've been working on another project for a couple of weeks and hope to wrap it up soon. See below.

I bought 4340, which is better than 4140. Not a metallurgist, but I play one at work, can someone enlighten me on 5140? Who makes parts in this alloy?

Sorry it's not crank specific. forged 4340 is the best, I believe. Excluding billet.
