Tool for Shock stem on front end
Just wanted to share... while struggling changing out the shocks on my '98 Ranger, I came across a shock tool. Basically it is a special socket that fits over the two flats machined into the top of the shock stem. While I could not find one that fit the Ranger's shocks, there was one that fit my vette's shocks perfectly.
The part number is 13400, and it's called a "Shock absorber socket"
It is made by Lisle Corp. and distributed by Car Quest (at least in my area).
It was only $4, and is very helpful. For the price, I recommend everyone to have one!
Oh yeah, if someone knows where to get something similar to fit the shock stems on my Ranger, please share!

Perhaps this tool is common knowledge to everbody else, but most people I know who casually work on cars did not know it existed...
Plus its inexpensive! :hurray: (Don't get that often on stuff for our cars...)

I knew they existed but did not know they were that inexpensive. Being that it is a special tool I figured it would be at least twice that price!!
Thanks for the heads up :seeya

Not on the vette ... but I usually put a 9/16 deep socket on with a long
extension. Then, bend back and forth until the old shock rod snaps.
That socket looks like it would work well as long as there isn't much rust.
