Default replacing exhaust - what kind?

I need to replace my exhaust on my 70. The original is 2". I was thinking of getting the 2.5" that Mid America Motorworks has. My questions are:

How much will this change the performance?
How much will this change the sound?

Also, they have two different types. One is aluminized steel and the other is stainless. I have heard of stories about problems with stainless pipes expanding and moving around. So when you get them all in place they move from the heat. I mainly show the car. Nothing like NCRS, so I don't mind it not being original I just want it to look nice.

One more question. I would like a muffler that is stock looking but sounds great. Right now I have super turbos on. They are great exept they have a rust hole starting to come through.

Thanks

I have had very good luck with Allen's exhaust. Great product line and plenty of choices. I have the best luck with the aluminized system ... be sure to get the "off road" mufflers.. They really sound much more like the originals. Throaty but not too loud. Also they have good customer service if a problem arises. Class act all the way.

Check out the thread on MNJacks new exhaust system. He had it done at Mufflex in Trenton NJ. A little ride for you but the fit is excellent. I had mine done there about 2 years ago and have sent many people to Denny at Mufflex. He specializes in performance cars. I have seen many bought systems and none have fit or been as solid as a custom bent system. I know many here are satisfied with the bought system but I tried 2 and was never happy. You might try some local GOOD muffler shops and ask to see some of their systems. Denny has a whole album of his custom exhaust. He will bend up any type and muffler you want. Not the cheapest in town but good quality work.

I recently installed walker/dynomax ceramic coated headers with the 2.5 inch chambered exhaust from mid america. I really like the sound, similar to sidepipes. You should check out the hooker aerochamber mufflers available from summit. Great sound and some muffling capabilities.

I installed the 2.5 aluminized Allens Exhaust stock system on my 70. I think the sound is pretty good. Came with the tips and all the hangers needed. I installed it in my garage and have not had a problem with it yet. That has been over 4 years ago. Give Allens a yell.
