I need to Grease or oil my speedo cable. Should i soak i in oil or just grease it ? does it come out of the top only? I took it off at the Trans end and it did not pull out, I didnt want to pull on it too hard. Can i just reach up with my hand under the dash and unsrew it? I imagine it being a little like a motor cycle cable. Thanks Guys for your Help
It only comes out from the dash end... When you lube it use white lithium. Some people like the black graphite stuff but I prefer something a little less messy.
It was almost impossible to get to the dash speedo cable from under the dash, at least it was for me.
I changed my speedo cable recently, had to remove all the faceplate screws and move the speedo/tach guage cluster forward. It's not to tough to do actually. I assume you have no cruise control? If you do have it then don't forget you have speedo connections there to.
If you have a very old speedometer cable note that you may have to just replace the cable, no amount of greasing it will correct those frayed wires inside. They aren't that expensive.
