I've got a weeping caliper and figure it's time to replace all of them. I see replacements offering O-ringed pistons vs the std piston. Is it worth considering?
Has anyone stumbled upon a deal worth passing on or a good source?
Go O-ring. Get the conversion kit after you confirm your calipers are SS sleeved. $130 for all 4 calpiers and your home free. This also gives you the chance to paint 'em up so they look PRETTY.
My question is, why would someone ever buy standard lip seal calipers? Is there a drawback to having O-ring pistons in your calipers? Everything I have ever heard about them is good... they tolerate run-out better, they are good for cars that don't get driven too much, etc. So why wouldn't someone want o-ring calipers?

Believe it or not, a lip seal will actually provide a stronger inside to outside seal than an O-ring. But their outside to inside seal is not so good and will tend to leak and/or suck air if the piston is pushed back into the bore (e.g. a warped rotor) hence the springs to keep the pistons pushed out. O-rings on the other hand seal equally well in both directions.
So really as long as your rotors are true, you'll never have a problem related to the lip seals.
