hot start solenoid replacement
But, barring rewiring my starter (I have no originally colored wires, so it is really tought for the electrically deficient), but I think I need to replace the solinoid. Tonight I got no crank at all, all power looked good, but nothing, even when cold (sat overnight and all day), so I knew it wasn't the hot-start problem. SO, being an old Ford guy, I gave the remote solinoid a whack (amongst us tecchies, its called a "technical tap" :D ) with a 3/4" open end wrench, and it cranked right away!
So, I'd like to replace the solinoid, but don't know what to replace with? I can't walk into the local NAPA and ask for a corvette solinioid, they'll give me the one on top of the starter.
Any ideas what was typically used?
Thanks,
David
What other solenoid are you looking for? My car has two. The one that is shorted out on the starter and another remote solenoid mounted on the firewall. For the remote solenoid I just went to the ford parts counter and asked for a cheap heavy duty solenoid and it was $10.
So if you are looking for a remote solenoid just ask for anything from Ford that is heavy duty, they all work the same.
