Default Parking Brake Problems

1976 Vet. The parking brake shoe hold down that I ask about in a previous question is a small plate that fits on the center bolt ( anchor bolt ??) I am sorry that I didn't make myself clear. The bolt unscrews part way and then hits the inside of the axle flange. The small plate helps the brake shoe from sliding over. Do I absolutely need this plate? Can I grind off part of the head for clearance. ANY IDEAS?????? THANK YOU

I think u answered your question in your post. "Stops the brake shoe from sliding over".:smash:

Dont think Mr Chevrolet would pay for a part to be fitted if it wasnt needed.

Removing things like that are what makes a Bubba

Suggest leaving it out aint a good idea. :nono:

Are you referring to the bolt at the top center with small plate that the top of the shoes fit behind? If so, I've never heard of any need to unscrew that while doing a brake job.
Pictures would help.

Is the problem the condtion of it? Mine were rusted completely away. I ended up grinding down a wrench to fit between the spindle and bolt so I could loosen it. I them split the ring to get it over the bolt and then straightened it and tightened the bolt back down. It is my second year on this and I have seen a problem yet.
