I just picked up my vette a couple weeks ago, my first. There are a couple switches under the dash on the driver's side. What are they for? One is a green switch. The other is some kind of white ****. Any idea what they are for?
Re: Mystery switches under driver's side dash (Custum73)
There are two vacuum switches and one on/off switch. The vacuum switch's pull down. One vacuum switch keeps the headlights up and the other controls the wiper door, but I don't think you have a wiper door on a 73's ??
The center **** shuts off power to the wipers so you can change the blades etc.
Re: Mystery switches under driver's side dash (VETDRMS)
...ahhh, which I do not have. I imagine I could pick up a copy online. Know any good websites to pick up a copy of an owners manual? I picked up the Chilton manual, which has been somewhat helpful.
Re: Mystery switches under driver's side dash (Custum73)
been there and had the same question Yrs ago... the pull **** is for the headlights,(i was told that when the lights are on, pull the **** and after shoting off the engine and lights ,the doors will stay up so you can wash them),the only other **** i know of is the speedo ****,its padded and puses in or turns. Mine have never worked?, but you can buy new ones. there available from different vendors. by the way both of these ***** are black. I am not aware of any other *****. but like the last post mentioned there is a vacum **** for wiper door equiped vettes. :seeya
Re: Mystery switches under driver's side dash (Custum73)
One of them isn't something silly like an aftermarket alarm bypass is it? Sometimes there are bypass switches put there, my 80 has one down there as well as the pull down for the headlights to stay up.
Re: Mystery switches under driver's side dash (Custum73)
Nope, no wiper door. Any idea what the on/off switch is for?
Wiper door or not, I believe this switch should stop your wipers in "mid wipe" to make it easy to change the blades. I can stop mine while they are completely extended to the sides. That way you don't have to reach across the body to the center of the car (and possibly scratch that nice paint :) ).
Re: Mystery switches under driver's side dash (Freepop)
I would say it is some after market setup. I don't see it in my owners manual and I don't have any.
You can order an owners manual from the National Corvette Musem http://www.corvettemuseum.com/
