I have to replace the left side exhaust manifold on my 76 L48 as it is cracked and leaking. I have seen some manifolds for sale for other year cars and my question is are the 76 manifolds unique in anyway or will a 75 through 80 exhaust manifold be an exact replacement? also is there any differance between a left and right side manifold or will either one fit on the left side (drivers)
If you don't mind it not looking 100% stock, I think you can get away with just about any of the C3 manifolds (probably some C2's as well) as long as you get one with a 2" outlet - which is what I assume you have on yours- versus the 2.5" outlet manifolds. I've seen lots of differant styles of the rams horn manifolds, some with extra brackets or accessory mounts, so wait 'till someone who knows more to chime in.
The problem is, whether or not you have the smog pump. Check before you buy the manifold if it has the air tube holes.
My suggestion is to just plunk down a little extra $$ and get a nice set of uncoated hooker or dynomax headers, if the smog patroll will allow it, that is.
'75 manifolds were #3932461 and were interchangable L to R. No AIR holes. Check the # on yours to see if it is the same. The date codes are inside so no one would ever see that if you are concerned about NCRS.
1973-1980 small block, used casting number 3932461 for both left and right. The driver's side casting had 4 A.I.R. holes drilled, passenger's side had 2 A.I.R. holes drilled.
(1980 California cars (305 ci) and all 1981-82 cars used tubular stainless steel.)
