Well, the new cam came back from Comp last week and i've been waiting for an order for my composite distributor gear and decided to do some little things in the mean time. One of which is fixing the fact that my Holley Black pump overpowers my little 803 dead head style regulator. I got a Mallory bypass regulator today and plumbed it into the stock bypass line...the problem being its not nearly big enough for this much flow. It only bypasses 2-3lbs.
What I did do was hook my little 803 dead-head regulator up to the outlet on the Mallory unit. I can tell a big difference in amount of work the pump is doing and the fuel pressure stays rock steady, even not running.
I would ultimately like to run a return-only style system, but I need to plumb a larger return line. (3/8" - 1/2")
Has anyone done this? How does the tank need to be modified to make this work? Where did you run your fuel lines (I'd like to do this with the body on!). I plan to have a sump welded in the tank for use with a nitrous system and run 1/2" to the engine in the near future. But at the moment I'd like a fully operable return system.

Hell, you can just have your tank modified with the proper -AN bulkhead fitting. This could take some drilling and welding or just drill it and cinch it down tight if it's threaded. Put it on the top of the tank so the returned gas just dumps back in.

You don't want a massive return flow - it will airate and cause vapor fuel loss.
I just did a system on my buddies 67 427 BBC camero. I used a 1/4 return line and I was trying to figure out how to install something like a holley jet setup to regulate the fuel log pressure. Anyway I got it to 6 psi on the log gauge without a regulator.
the tank was easy because of the Camero trunk. I drilled a hole in the side of the filler and then pushed a punch in the hole and bent the hole so the line could be feed down into the tank. Clear down near the bottom under the fuel level line.
