Default Trivia question

In what year did GM stop using the Stingray name and why?You would think GM would have waited until the C4 came out.

They stopped "stingray"in the middle of 77. Some 77's have Stingray, some have crossed flags, A friend of mine has a 77 with both.

It was midyear 1976 when one of the top GM brass who wanted the Stingray name in the first place left the company, the next up in power dropped the name like a hot potato.
At least thats what I remember reading a few years back.

Since 63, for 15 years Corvette & Sting Ray were synonymous.
STINGRAY http://ganeys.home.sprynet.com/STINGRAY.htm

There is some lead time between design & production. Bill Mitchell, head of styling, who did the Stingray bodies, retired from GM in 77. By this time the 78s were done w/ Mitchell's color silver even in the Pace car interior & lower body.

78- 25th anniversay of the Corvette- not Stingray. They were already working on the C4 & McLellan had said the styling would be reeled in.
84 induction & 700R4 were in production in 81. So the focus was on the C4.

I would say that they didnt use it in `53, but dont forget about the lack of use in `68.

I have stingray emblems for my 68 not on the car because they werent installed factory. this was due to a strike i believe in late production of the 68 model year (late 67). management had to finish the cars and is why it doesnt have it. they continued with the stingray emblem in the future and im not sure when the canned the stingray name all together, but i thought some of you appreciate some useless knowledge :)

Thanks everyone. So I guess that with the intro. of the big back window the Stingray name went in the trash.Thats easy enough to remember.Buy the way I'm still looking for a 78 silver anni.or maybe a 78 pace car.Would prefer a 4sp. car.Don't really care if it's a L48 or L82.I've seen a lot on the web but it seems all the ral nice ones are on the west coast.I'm in Savannah Ga.so I'd like to keep my search over here someplace.
