Thought I saw a post on this subject not too long ago but I cant find the one Im looking for in a search...
it was a specific product that someone recommended... automotive paint of some kind (I thought Jughead was in on the post somewhere but I apologize if Im wrong about that)
Anyway I just put the plastic headlamp shields on so Id like to "renew" the grilles somehow...
Re: "Chrome" Paint for front Grilles...(Jughead?) (joe73vette)
I don't know about "chrome" paint, but I used a silver paint stick to freshen up my grilles. The 73's are plastic, so I think silver is correct. Joe
1973 grilles are made of "potmetal"...zinc diecast. They are chrome plated on the leading edges and a flat black color otherwise. I spent about 4 months finding a complete set NOS.

I painted mine with Krylon "chrome" paint, this after seeing another guys grilles done the same way. He sandblasted his, I didn't. I just cleaned them with some Dawn before I painted them. No they don't look like chrome, but more of a cast aluminum. I like them. I also moved my center grille to the front.
My grilles were originally flat black but I think the silver brightens up the front a little.
Here's a shot after painting them but before I move the center grille out. This shot is shortly after I bought my Vette, so it's about 4 years old. It shows the wire wheels it had and it's before I dropped the front end 1 inch.
