Gas tank modified & reinstalled !

My original idea was to install a bung into the sending unit, this would be a piece of cake and I wouldn't even have to remove that gas tank form the car. WRONG !!! The sending unit is incredibly small on my 74. I didn't want to upset the fuel level sensor, but I just didn't have enough room here.
So the tank came out and after some good flushing of any remaining fuel with the garden hose, I was ready to start drilling into the bottom of my tank. I installed a -8 bulk head designed for installing into sumps in fuel cells.

The nice thing about where it's located is that the stock pickup tube is right near the same spot so essentially the gas is still picked up into the fuel line at the same location as stock. I was also about to reach the bulkhead through the filler hole with my socket to tighten the jam nut into place. I did turn a few threads off the bulkhead where it's inserted into the tank to lower the lip for fuel to enter easier.
Here's a close up of the fitting.
I reinstalled the tank today. I need 1 fitting for the fuel filter (betwwen the tank & fuel pump), and the fuel system is complete :)

I am about to do the same thing (with addition of plumbing a 3/8" return line). What did you coat your tank with?
I think I saw in another thread that you got it running????
Come on now, details.

I had previously painted the tank the last time I had it out 4 years ago. I cleaned it up some more and repainted it with an aluminum color spray paint with ceramic in it :)
