Default Fuel Pump Install--Postlude

First, I want to thank all members who contributed to diagnosis and to those who had tips for install. Job completed, two oil changes completed and ready to enjoy for time being.

1. I had a little trouble using the grease method, so I used the "long bolt" method--simple, easy, and worked like a champ.
2. Clamp off the "in " gas line before removing from pump
3. Used thread sealer on install of pump and short bolt in front of block
4. Removed gas line from carb for install--made it a lot easer to hook up gas line on the fuel pump as I could move the line around to match the threads up.
5. Did not need to remove front tire as I have a no frills motor and there was ample room.

I wish I had a digital camara and would have taken some step by step photos to keep in archives and hope to build a nice "how to" library for future members. The only trouble I have is that it is so many years before have to do a repeat that it is hard to remember the tricks--Thanks again--Dave :)

Not too difficult but is a pain to work in that tight of an area.

Glad things went well for ya. I just did my third fuel pump swap this past weekend with the 'grease' method. Messy...but works. What is the "long bolt" method?????

Eddie--on the front side of the block there is a small 3/4 inch bolt, when taken out is a straight shot to the actuating fuel pump rod--you put in a longer bolt(I used one about 2 1/2 inches long ) and it just screws in until it makes contact with the fuel pump rod and just put a little pressure and it stays put. :yesnod:

Oooh, I like that. Wish I'd known about it 2 weeks ago. I taped some needlenose to lift the actuating rod, slid a screwdriver in to hold in place and then slid the pump behind the screwdriver. Pretty easy but I was lucky.
