Default Shipping Cost!! What a rip off! RANT

Why do the vendors try to get rich off shipping charges? It's not like most of them overcharge for their products but the shipping cost is unbelievable. I just ordered a new power window spring and the cost for the spring was $25. That was bad enough, but the shipping cost was $8.95  This spring weighs 4 oz.! A couple to 3 bucks or so should handle the shipping. I know that there are "handling" charges but couldn't the vendor just put that cost into the product? And another thing, what's with the minimum order charge. If you need a $15 dollar part, it's going to cost you at least $20 plus handling, if not an extra handling charge because it's below the minimum order price. These guys and gals are making a ton of money off us car fanatics and to continually gouge us on shipping is tough, especially for those with limited finances to work with. I realize that some of you live close enough to these vendors to be able to go by their stores and save on shipping charges (you do pay sales tax though!) but probably most of us have to order over the phone or through the internet. It just seems like we're getting it on both ends.

Sorry for the rant but I had to vent a little. Hope everyone's having a great day.

I run into this with ordering parts from summit. Summit has free shipping withint the continental USA but I have to pay to ship it to the border.
Then even though we have free trade have to spend about $50 shipping and handling charges to get a fuel pump shipped from the border to here.
So while the parts are alot cheaper the shipping eats up any savings.

If it makes yo feel any better if I were to order the same spring it would break down like this, and I am not kidding :

Spring : $25US
Shiipping: $8.95US
Convert to CND = $47.53CND
Brokerage feew : $37.00CND
Provincal and GST tax x 15% = $97.20 CND

You read that correct to my door for only $97.20CND :mad

Wow!! I guess when you look at it like that, we here in the US have it better than those of you outside the US. Doesn't make the shipping pill any less bitter to swallow but you know what I mean. :D

You ought to try living in Guam USA. Packages sent by air thru the post office cost about $3 per pound and takes from 7-15 days. UPS and FedEx want three to four times that and will take a minimum of 5-7 days. Anything surface takes 4-6 weeks. Some vendors won't send stuff to Guam, so we have to get it sent to a freight forwarder in California. This method jacks up the cost even more. It is not uncommon for the freight charges to cost three times more than the cost of the part.

Actually, Ebay is worse. The shipping charges most often conain charges for the box, crumpled newspaper packing, gas to the shipping office, packing tape, and a cup of coffee while waiting in line!!!

when I order stuff from summit or a corvette parts vendor they usually charge an international handling fee of about 25$, then add shipping and you know you're in for a nice bill (and those charges get taxed too). I usually have stuff shipped to a US address (thanks to the awesome help of guys here on the forum :) ) Then you only pay like 10$ or so for the handling and ground shipping is usually free. Then when it arrives at the US address I have it shipped via the most economical way (usually USPS in batches)
