Default mysterious component - 1971

attached to the back driver's side fender well (rear of the back tire) is a black device that I believe is supposed to be attached to a hose from the gas tank. It is mounted such that is looks sort of like an upside down funnel. There is a line from the gas tank that currently is not hooked up to anything (and leaks gas when the tank is full). What is this called and what is it's function?

Its your alarm horn....has nothing to do with fuel.
Sounds as though your vapor canister line is unhooked too.

no, he is not looking at the alarm horn...it is obvious that is a horn and I think he would know what that it. He is looking at the small black box which is the vapor separator. The fuel line coming off the tank should be hooked up to it. Someone forgot to connect it, that is why gas is leaking when tank is full

:iagree: Mine was hooked up to the vapor cannister. I have since removed the cannister and just plugged that port on the gas tank. Gas will leak out if it is not hooked up to anything.

It does look like a horn.....but I was unaware that I had an alarm.....how would you test it to see if it works?

There is one line that is hooked up to the little black box (vapor separator?). The other fuel line is not hooked up to anything. Is there another line that is coming from the vapor canister that this should be hooked up to?
