New ground cable
So I get a new ground cable from a Corvette only store. Takes forever and a breaker bar to loosen the old bolt on the frame. Then I notice the bolt is larger than the ring on the new ground cable....already I'm feeling iffy about this. So I put the ground cable and a couple new washers on, tighten it down, and it snaps off whatever is INSIDE the frame that I'm trying to bolt to.
so now I'm wondering what else in that location is a good ground point. Any ideas?

Where exactly was this ground? I bought one at Napa. i doubt the ground strap sold at a corvette vendor is a corvette repro groundstrap. Probably the same generic piece I got at Napa.

Are you reffering to the negative battery cable? That's the only one that I can think of that uses a threaded insert that is welded inside the frame in the cross member nearest the battery box. That uses a 7/16" bolt. There is also a ground cable that attaches near right engine mount and the other end attaches to the engine block. All the other ground connections on my '68 use large (ish) sheet metal like, hex head screws that are about 1/4". According to my AIM, those are added for radio noise suppression. Any place on the frame is suitable for a negative ground connection. Maybe you can find a large self tapping bolt, or drill and tap a new hole to attach the ground.
