Default On-Topic Contest!

Ok the first person to answer my question gets an invite to gMAIL (gmail.google.com). Please don't reply if you don't need account, thanks

I'm finally reinstalling my rear differential cover; which bolts are locking washers and which are regular? I thought, all on the face of the cover were flat, and anything with the cross member (four top, and two outer) were locking. My dad swears it's the reverse. Anyone know for sure? Again, the bolts on the face of the cover, the 4 from the crossmember to the cover, and the 2 from the crossmember to the car on the outer edges.

Good luck!

My service GM factory manual doesn't even mention there being 2 types of washers.
Good thing that I didn't even know what a gmail was.

yeah I have 3 different manuals and none of them specify. I think I'm just going to put all locking washers, is there anything wrong with this? I have to go back to the hardware store anyways because the heavy duty cover I have beefed up the areas around the threads, and at the same time, blocked off the ends of the lower set of holes that attach the crossmember to the cover. Is this normal? I was going to see if it was just really thin and not broken off but I didn't want to shear off a bolt in my new cover.

EDIT: Gmail is googles free email thats in beta testing so you have to be invited, and once you get invited you can invite others. It's real nice, 1 gig of space and lots of features.

I know for a fact that all the crossmember are locking from the factory. As for the face cover... Im not sure about how they originally came, but I just had my rear carrier rebuilt by van steel a few weeks ago and they replaced all the washers on the face with lock washers.

Put down the wrench's, drop the bolt's, roll the washers under the fridge, and when you go to retrieve them, grab a beer.....
OR better yet have one on me. "just click the beer in my sig".....

I would love to have a Gmail account if you get the chance.

Hmm. well nobody knew for sure, and as I thought would happen I just bought all locking washers. And I guess I'll have to give it to Desertdawg for being the most creative and since he said he wanted it

I'll PM you my email, fire me one and I'll hook you up.

I used all grade 8 bolts - and all with lock washers in all the spots noted.
.... cheaper by the box.
