Comparing a Volvo to a Vette is like comparing carrot sticks and chocolate chip cookies....not even close. The factor doesn't exist, even if it is Turbocharged.
How many times have you heard someone say "cool Volvo"?

You fellows have to accept the basic reality that a modern car like a Volvo or a tweaked Honda Civic can blow the doors off a stock C3. I have seen Civics in the 12 second range. Just swallow your pride. Technology advances. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Goes beyond that IMHO...way beyond...

I know it prolly sounds like bs and A 13 second civic might be fun, but I can't beleive they're as much pure fun much fun a vette can be. I rode a Harley for 11 years and, while it was awsome, it still doesn't compare to the vette.

Mary (my wife) and I took a cruise yesterday. No maps, just drove along the missippi stopping and looking at stuff. Visiting with each other, stop and find a cool little eatery, and all the while cruising in a powerful, loud, agressive ****.

An added bonus, little kids, yound adults, old farts all waivin' an pointin'. Stop for gas an ya gotta show it to someone who's askin.....

I just know it ain't the same inna Volvus...er ...whatever they be...

OK... Here's an actual Volvo Perspective... and I believe I have what they "volvo" considers to be one of their best... now that raises my eyebrow... When asked what car I own...I say "CORVETTE"... when asked what I drive to work...I say volvo.

Volvo S80 T6 (twin turbo)

Comparing days when I drive the volvo vs the Corvette...
* No waves
* No smiles
* No second looks...much less a first
* No thumbs up
* Never told I have a nice car
* Usually on my way to the dealer for a warranty claim all the feaking time!
* No noise to tell you I just put it in passing gear
* I get extremely board with any drive over 15 minutes
* Highlight of the drive is the cup holders...

Now... take the opposite of the points above when I drive the VETTE and consider the fact that my Vette is in the garage getting an interrior refurb while the volvo sits in the driveway getting pelted by Dallas hail....and I believe my feelings about a volvo are clear.

The Volvo Guy looking forward to meeting one of us "knuckel draggers" needs to drive past a nice reflective window and take a serious look!

your perspective brought a tear to my eye, and reminded me that although our cars may not be refined or ultra confortable.... they sure are cool!

You Bet they are! And I would (and do) own a C3 over a more modern Corvette any day!

So you're saying that because a highly modified modern civic will take a stock 30+ yo car with an engine designed in the 50's, technology advances? I guarantee a stock civic will not take a stock C2/3. I agree that technology has advanced, but your example doesn't show anything.

And the original post talked about a 740 turbo volvo. Those things might be fun to tune (I don't know), but they couldn't blow away anything more than an L48 stock for stock (and probably not that either). A quick google search gives 0-60 times of 8-9 seconds depending on year.

There's not much point talking about modified cars because most things can be made fast with a bit of money.

That and look at the expense of getting these little *** cars to run fast times. You could put that money into a vette and the civic wouldn't be able to touch you.
