Optima!! You will find alot of support for those batteries on this forum. I personally have a red top in my vette. I got it from the local Autozone so if I ever have any problems I should not have any trouble with replacements.

I too have a red top in my '79 that I purchased at my local AutoZone. Will never go back. It's worth the extra money for it's strength, durability and longevity. They cost less at Costco, but I'm not sure if they carry the correct size.
my Optima died after 7 years , i could not believe it , i replaced a starter 3 times before i tested the battery , i just refused to believe it was gone, i was too hard headed, , so i bought a Exide Orbital to stress test , i bought a dt34-78 so i could also use it in my Cummins diesel not to mention i get a great deal through work for Exide , about 35.00 cheaper than a new optima
I like the idea of sealed batteries like the Optima. Originally our C3 batteries were vented though the floor with specially vented battery covers. Those covers will not fit the newer batteries, and I don't like the idea of sitting almost on top of a compartment full of explosive hydrogen gas fumes.

At first I went the cheapo route and bought a Never-Start (oops I mean Ever Start) at Wal Mart. It was a POS. I did learn that a bad battery manifests itself as starter problems.
Anyway, I bought an Optima and have never looked back. It cranks like a **** and the Vette starts every time, even if hot, cold it doesnt matter with the Optima.

I became permanently turned off on Wal-Mart car batteries when I needed one for my Taurus at like 11PM one night, and the only one they had left that would fit my car was already leaking right there on the shelf, and all the other Wal-Marts within a reasonable distance had none. I ended up driving across town to a 24 hour AutoZone. There will be NO Wal-Mart batteries in my future.
