Anyone with 200-4R experience, please step inside...
So I'm finally starting to ramp up to the project and I just want to know what things you guys had to buy to make it work. Currently I run a L48 w/th400, so moving cross member shouldn't be an issue. I'm also looking for places to buy, but I'm leaning more and more toward BTO.
I understand that many parts that BTO recommends I can buy through Chevy, but which parts and are they cheaper through chevy?
Things I'll probably need:
new yoke
tv cable
dipstick
dust cover
torque converter
lock up wiring
speedometer gear
and of course, transmission
Feel free to comment on any or all aspects I've brought up, or even things you saw in converting. Also, how'd you get it in? Just muscle it in or made something to lift it in?

I am thinking of doing the 200 4R in my 66. I am running a TH 350 now.
What car and year is the 2004R in? I guess I will have to get one from the junk yard and who is BTO.

What we're saying here is DON'T be a fool and do the junkyard thang! It only ends up being more expensive that what you would start out buying a turnkey package from BTO (Bowtie Overdrives) http://www.2004r.com
I've been here for over 2 years and still have not heard of a single BTO 200-4R cratering, grenading, giving out, whatever.
No I do not have a stake in BTO, I just have one of their trannys in my car!

I might go with a 800 HP rated 200R4 with transbrake from California Performance Transmission in combination with my new engine (being built right now)

I went and talked to CPT and although they may make very good transmissions, I was not impressed with their customer service. The guy kept taking calls while I was standing there trying to get a quote for building a 200 for me.
From what it sounds like, I may waste more time tracking down less expensive parts than it's worth. Looks like I'll give BTO a call and see what they can do for me.
I do have one issue though: it seems as though BTO has speedo gears for $30, but I read in another post that GM sells them for $7? Is that correct, or just a fantasy?

(Hi Page). The BTO stuff does the job & is easy to install (but you WILL need a pressure gauge to setup the TV cable correctly). The only snag I had was that the converter dust cover they supply is for a 153 tooth flexplate, so if you've got a 168 tooth one it won't fit without having to make up spacers for it. The time taken doing that could be used to "adjust" the stock cover to fit Talking of which, has anybody got a spare TH350 converter dust cover they'd sell? A guy here is looking for one.

When you buy from BTO, they will put the correct speedo gears in it. Just tell them what rear gear you have and the size of your tires. They have everything needed to do the job. Best mod I have done to my 73
