Re: Solid, rubber or poly engine mounts?? (jpatrick636)
Moroso solids seem bullet proof but the vibration has me wrenching like it was an old Harley.
I have some solid mounts waiting to go in next time i break a rubber one. How bad is it really? I thought Harly-like was a GOOD thing. I like my car to be a little raw and edgy anyway.
Plus, i've heard the poly mounts will melt.
P.S. I really like your car. It has that bad azz look! With a motor to back it up.

turtlevette,
It's not at all bad in the driving experience. I just have to keep after the small nuts and bolts like the float bowls, carb linkage and stuff like that. It's not a big deal, just something you have to be mindful of. I wouln't change.
I'm like you. I like edgy, loud and fast.
No knock on Harleys, but the old one's were notorious for vibrating loose.
Thanks for the compliment. If I live another 25 years, I might get it finished.
Re: Solid, rubber or poly engine mounts?? (jpatrick636)
I can't remember where it was, but I remember reading somewhere that solid mounts aren't recommended - even for drag racing. Seems that they can create internal stresses in the engine when under load. Anyone else hear of this?
Re: Solid, rubber or poly engine mounts?? (jpatrick636)
Since you have solids, you know what I'm talking about. Its a good thing sittin at a stop light with the car rockin from the engine hittin hard. Luckily I don't have a carb. One other thing to think about is by solid mounting, you make the frame a little stiffer. Just a thought. Kid Vette, if you engine is balanced, you shouldn't have a problem.

Kid Vette'
I would rather have a solid foundation than having the motor twisting and flexing against the rest of the drive train. The more stable the motor is the less stress. As far as vibration, it's going to be in the motor whether it's transmitted to the frame or not.
Re: Solid, rubber or poly engine mounts?? (jpatrick636)
I found the reference that I was thinking of. Not saying its right or wrong. This is from "Chevy Performance" by John Mechelsen, page 17.
"Solid mounts have been popular in drag racing, but they create torque stress in the cylinder walls next to the motor mounts. A better plan is to use cushioned mounts and restrict engine movement with a torque strap at the front of the motor."
