Default How hard is it to replace the speedometer cable i a 1968 convertable?

My Speed-O-Meter cable seems to have given up. It isn't working now. How hard is this to replace?

Thanks

It is actually not that difficult.

Unbolt the cable stay from the transmission and pull out the geared assembly
Remove the Dash Board, press up in the middle and it will come right out
Remove the screws holding the LH Dash and tilt it forward... easy now... wiring behind there!
Unclip the speedo cable from the assembly

NOW come the options...
You can just pull out the broken cable from the sleeve and put the new one in with grease of couse... or
Replace the entire cable and sleeve, a little more difficult getting through the firewall....

Then just reconnect and put everything back.

Just remember not to force the dash pieces. If they are stuck, it is because they are hung up on something. Shouldn't take more that an afternoon having fun!

make sure the grease you use is for the cable. Some grease will muck up and cause it to break again...

Thank you for the help! I think I will try just the cable frist. Unless I find something broken on the sleeve?? Then I will replace that. Once I finish rebuilding the drive train on my Scrambler the Vette is next in line. Always things to do!

One small note, '68 cable connections are "threaded on" versus "clip on". Be sure to check the speedo gear at the transmission also. G.

I changed mine without pulling the dash.. If your hand is not too big - you should be able to remove and attach the cable to the speedo without pulling the dash (from the bottom)... I have done it on my '68 and it took me about 15 minutes to change the cable..
