hello fellow enthusiasts! I have my eye on a sweet '77, but the driver side door is drooping down let's say a half-inch.
how difficult/expensive is that to repair? is that something a guy can fix at home, or does it go to the body shop?
thanks much!
might just need pins and bushings. will cost you around $15, and you should have 2 people doing this and watch out for scrathing the ends of the door and fender
all good advice, always check the frame in front of the rear wheels, especially where the trailing arms hook up and radiator support, the area in front of the windshield and the birdcage or windshield support. if it is the door pins, most GM dealers stock the pins and bushings for about $20. put masking tape on the fender edge above the top pin to protect the finish, you can also drive the pin up a little, then grind the head down so it clears the fender better,
Hopefully your doors aren't too bad. Mine was just the driver door - typical wear... I took the door off and completely rebuilt the top and bottom hinges with new bushings and pins. I also replaced the spring - it didn't look too good.
ggrice, if you take it somewhere to be repaired, I would highly suggest seeking out a Corvette specialist and not just a body shop. My passenger door was out of alignment. $70 and it's perfect. Don't forget that you may also need to have your window aligned.
This a sign of bad news, droping doors could mean rotten frame, rotten body mounts, rotten bird gage. If I were I would walk. Sounds like a big $$$$ fix
