I don't know, but I can tell you that for the '69, the diverters were different even between the different big blocks--the L36 had a different configuration that the L71, than the L88, etc. I imagine it was the same in '68. That's the reason the diverter is the hardest part of the smog system to get your hands on, and they are expensive as hell to get rebuilt (Bill Hodel gets $300 to rebuild your diverter, and God knows what he gets for the diverter itself).
Need some help. Is the diverter valve the same on a 68 and 69 BB A.I.R. system?
Was a CA Car.Thanks
The 728296 used in 68 on big blocks was used on the L88 in 69...but all other big blocks used 729298. PS...ZL1 used same as L88. CA did not make a difference.
You sure about that Hunt? In Bizzocco's book, he shows good pictures of the L36, L88, & L89 diverters, and they're all different. And in the Vette Vues Fact Book, they've got some nice shots of the L71, and it's very different from the L36, and looks a lot like the one on the L89.
I used the NCRS tech manual which reports the parts without the 7...in 1970, GM began to include the 70 so the PN is 7028296.
But your point is well taken...they are different than reported by Bizzoco...but a footnote in the NCRS manual indicates that "stamped numbers are not part number" which I know is not helpful. And most have been superceded.
Probably Rowdy Rat or Boeing Driver could clear this up. I can look up some other sources I have.
