I need to adjust the linkage of the original shifter and have seen a gauge in Haynes manual. They say that it should be inserted into control lever bracket...
Is it from the inside of the car or from the underside?!
I am about to do the same thing. I think you have to go under the car and get the guage to slide in. Zip sells the guage for $3.00 (their part #ST-406).

There is a drawing in the Factory manual also (at least in my '72 factory manual there is) that shows the dimensions of the gauge and how to do it. But I gotta say. this ranks right at the top of my list of POS jobs IMHO. There's just no room in the trans tunnel area. It's doable but a pain. Now if your 2 year old son has mechanical abilities..... CHarles

I just replied to another post (search my recent replies) and described how I used the guage - working from inside the car to just barely get the guage to slide in from the driver's side and lock up all three levers into neutral. Everything else done under the car...
By the way - Corvette Central sells the guage for $2.00...
