Default Custom Hooker glasspacks after 30k mi

When I put my engine in, I put in some custom glasspack mufflers in my Hooker side tubes. Basically, I bought a 2.5" perferated tube and a bunch of muffler fiberglass from a small time muffler company. Total was about $40 for the stainless steel tubes and enough fiberglass for 4 mufflers (I was thinking ahead here). I then welded the ends from the original Hooker glasspacks to the new tubes.

Well, I pulled them and here is what I found:
Muffler Pair

The passenger side fiberglass was almost completely burnt. I figured this as the pass side was quite a bit louder than the driver's side.

Here's a shot of the pass side only:
Passenger Only

When I put my car back on the road, I'll just re-pack the mufflers with the exra fiberglass I still have left over. In another 20k or so, I'll probably pull them again and then build some auger style inserts.

Can you see the pics??? I can't, but when I edit the post they are there and correct. Maybe I'll just put in the url.

To answer the question, I have not put them back yet as my engine is out of the car. I hope to have it back in during the middle of the month. As is, the passenger side was considerably louder.

When I first put these muffers in I thought they were quiter than the Hooker glasspacks, but those had NO fiberglass left. I bought the sidepipes used and they were probably 10+ years old.

A couple of years back I did the same thing. I used some 2 1/2" ID Purple Hornies, fabbed some ends on them for a slip fit into my Hooker sidepipes. As soon as I fired it up in the garage, I knew I was in trouble. The looks on my neighbor's faces as I idled out of the neighborhood was something like this: . But did she ever run. I pulled them when I got back to the garage, way too loud. Eventually I got the JCL baffles. Charles
