Hello I just put new KYB shocks on my C3 that has a composite spring, not sure what weight the spring is. but any way it still bounces. did I just buy the wrong shocks, if I did which ones should I have bought.
Re: Best shocks for composite spring (motorpsycho502)
Did you get the KYB shocks that are valved for the composit
spring? I have a TRW style 315 LB. spring and find the ride
very good. Under rebound the shocks seem to stop the bounce
firmly enough so that I can feel myself want to rise out of the seat.
The 315 may be too soft for some but with the bumpy roads
around here, too stiff will send you skittering on the turns.

another vote for the Bilstein here, I put them on my ZR-1 vert and love them, although I also replaced the rear 7 spring with a 9 to soften the ride on the back roads here but kept 550 springs up front.
Overall your best shock is going to be the Bilstein shock. They use a digressive valving that allows them to react to road conditions faster. The KYB's are good and if I had to rate them they would problably a step up from the Monroes. Koni's are very good shocks but the money you would spend on those is rediculous. $400 for all four Koni's compared to $250 for all 4 Bilsteins. For $150 more, your not going to notice that much of a difference.

I am in the market for another set of Bilstein shocks, this time for the 71, which has a composite rear spring, but I have not found a place currently where I can get 4 for $250. I purchased the ones on the 78 as part of the group purchase. Dan, is it time to have another GP on Bisteins?

Re: Best shocks for composite spring (phxraptor)
I am using some cheap un-known brand called RCI that I bought from Mid America. They are 9 position externally adjustable shocks, all 4 for $200.
I just tried them on a whim, and I was very surprised that they work really well. I have them set on position 5, which is a bit firm for most daily drivers. I also am running poly busings everywhere, low profile tires and stiffer springs so that is some of the ride quality as well.
I adjusted them once to position 9 and dang near banged my fillings out. It would be a good setting for racing but not for daily driving. I can go down to about position 3 in the rear, any less and the rebound from the mono spring starts to show up.

I would love to be able to get the price that low again but Bilstein raised our prices again. 6% profit won't cut it.

I've got the TRW 330# spring with Koni classics. I've adjusted them about halfway (rebound) and the bounce is gone. I'm going to crank 'em another 1/3 of a turn front and back for a little less rebound - might be too far but we'll see. Oh, I also have an 1 1/4" anti sway on the front and a 7/8" on the rear. On a bad road it's a little crazy but not uncontrollable - WAY better than with the stock Delcos.
