Lately I noticed when putting my auto trans. in gear on my '72 350 the engine starts to surge about 200 - 300 rpms. Also at low speeds, it the performance seems a bit sluggish. I originally thought vacuum, but the vacuum system seems fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions on possible problems?
My 71 BB surged when pulled into forward gear and even surged so bad it died when pulling it into reverse. I could watch the point plate being pulled back and forth (while in gear)by the vac system.
Lars told me to check the timing. Turned out Bubba had the timing so far off (retarded) and the idle screw so screwed up it surged when I put it in gear.
That's exactly what I was going to say, check timing or vacuum advance. I think have the timing too far advanced or the curve coming on to fast will also bring on this symptom. Make sure the distributor mechanical advance springs are not "sticking" or too loose.
